Carpets are great, cozy, soft and can easily become centerpieces in your home interior. But the fact is that they require proper and regular care, maintenance and cleaning in order to keep them looking good, soft and healthy over time. Here are some tips on making this process at home.
Take a look at these tips on cleaning your carpet quickly and easily:
Regular maintenance is important
Regular maintenance will save you from more serious deep cleaning for longer. Make sure you hoover your carpet thoroughly at least once a week. Clean over the various sections of the carpet several times. Pay special attention to the soiled and heavy traffic areas. If possible, flip the carpet over and clean the back as well, so that you remove as much dust and dirt as possible. Regular maintenance will prevent the build-up of dirt and dust and soiling and will prolong the life of your carpet.
Read the carpet label
Always make sure that you read any cleaning instructions and labels on your carpet before proceeding to wash or deep clean it! Make sure that you test any kind of solution you are planning on using for stain removal or cleaning on a hidden small spot before applying it on the carpet.
Act quickly if you spill something
Act quickly as soon as a spill happens! Except for mud, any other spill and stain are better treated as soon as it occurs. Blot out any excess liquid with a clean cloth or paper towel, or scrape it off with a spoon or spatula. Then proceed with washing the stain – again by blotting with the suitable cleaning solution. Rinse by blotting. Dry by placing paper towels and a heavy object on top. Never rub a spill or stain, because you will cause to become embedded deep into the carpet or can spread it further around the spill!
Remove wine and beer stains by blotting with club soda or with a mixture of warm water and white vinegar. Rinse off by dabbing with a clean wet cloth.
Remove hardened chewing gum from your carpet by freezing it with an ice cube and then removing the frozen gum becomes easier. Use scissors to cut it off of the carpet carefully.
Oily stains should be treated with a mixture of warm water and mild dish washing solution. Apply by blotting, and rinse off by blotting. Check out home to remove chocolate stains here.
To keep your carpet looking as good as new and as healthy as possible, it is recommended to use the services of a professional carpet cleaner to deep clean it at least once a year!
